Lord of the Rings CollectiblesMeanwhile, Merry and Pippin have been seized by the Uruk-hai, while Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli have befriended a human race, the Rohan, who are in the path of the coming battle. Their aged king stands strong in the face of danger, but weakens as his defense crumbles. There are two towers between Mordor and Isengard, that are now united in the lust to destroy. At the root of it all, is Saruman, the evil wizard who is a disciple of the Dark Lord, Sauron. Saruman surrounds the towers and himself with a massive Uruk-hai army with which he can destroy Middle Earth. But a rebellion is brewing, and it will be lead by Gandalf the White, thought to have been killed after his capture by the Balrog. One of the bearers of the Dark Lord’s ring, Gollum, has tracked down Frodo and Samwise, to retrieve his “precious”. But in finding them, he is captured himself, and forced to lead the Hobbits to Mount Doom. The episode ends with the beginning of the War of the Rings. “Lord of the Rings: Return of the King”, is the culmination of J.R.R. Tolkein’s massive work about the mythical world of Middle Earth. The fellowship has spread itself out: Frodo and Sam on their way to Mount Doom, Gandalf and Pippin are off to help defend Gondor, while Merry remains behind with Eowyn and the Rohans. With their confrontations set, the Fellowship attempts to break the Dark Lord’s focus on the ring, so that Frodo has a chance to destroy it. The Lord of the Rings trilogy garnered 30 Academy Award nominations, more than any other movie in history, surpassing the Godfather trilogy (28), and the original trio of Star Wars films (21). It revived a cult following of Tolkein’s work, and ensured the trilogy a place in literary history, that it had already secured, but which had been gathering dust for years until brought to the big screen in one of the most technically brilliant productions, ever. Lord of the Rings also spawned the usual boom of souvenirs and collectibles, of varying types and value. Some of the most sought after collectibles, are the incredibly detailed pewter figurines, which are an exclusive licensed product of Rawcliffe. Frodo, Gandalf, and even Gollum, are beautifully reproduced, down to the most minute grooves and folds of their costumes, curls of hair or wrinkles in their skin. They make an outstanding display as a collection, and also as “stand alone” features on a shelf or table. | ||||||||
