Ladybug Items

	Ladybug, Ladybug, fly away home. Your house is on fire and your children will burn. Many children over the years, have chanted that reminder to a tiny little insect, which is a member of the beetle family. The Ladybug, or Ladybird Beetle, is one of the more desirable insects to have in your garden, because it is a natural predator of many pests, such as aphids, and can consume as many as 5,000 of them in their lifetime. Sporting a semi-circular shaped body that may lean slightly to an oval shape, the most common ladybug is a bright orange, and normally comes with black spots, although they have been seen with just the colored wing covers. A ladybug’s head is covered by a hood known as the pronotum. The Asian ladybeetle or ladybug, the one we are familiar with, can be easily identified by the white pronotum with a black “M” on it. But if you’re lucky and live in the right area, you can also see ladybugs in white, pink, yellow, red or black, some of which are identified as separate species, by counting the number of spots on their wings. This handy little gardener’s helper is a go-getter from the start. Females lay eggs in places where there is “food”, which can be the underside of a leaf that is harboring aphids.
