 | Women, bless them, are easy to buy for. They love anything you give them, and wouldn’t dream of telling you they haven’t worn bows and ruffles since they were eight years old. Short of having her buy the gift herself, which kind of spoils the occasion a little, how do you go about getting Mom, the wife, grandmothers, etc. a gift that they will really cherish or use?
It’s easy. Really. Just look around you and them and take note of what you see. Has she got a favorite color? What do you see that she collects? Think of her pastimes. Somewhere in all of that is a nugget of inspiration that will earn you kisses and kudos for the gift of the year.
Is Mom a gardener? This has more possibilities than the lawn has blades of grass. Nose around her tools and see what needs replacing. Consider a gift basket that has gloves, seeds, a gardening themed coffee mug, trowel, hand rake, clippers, and whatever else you can think of, according to your basket size.
Does she garden literally from the ground up? Consider a portable greenhouse where she can start her own bedding plants. Then have the kids add such accessories as bedding flats, books, kneeling pads, watering cans, hoses, nozzles and garden hose storage wheels.

Gift Ideas for Mom
The woman who spends a lot of time on her knees tending flower and vegetable gardens also likes to sit back and admire her handiwork. How about a new porch swing, hammock or Adirondack chair? Some accents to complement the gardens are popular gifts as well, including fountains, birdbaths, solar powered figurines, solar powered lights, gazing balls, and arbors.
Not the outdoor type? Then turn your attention indoors. If she’s a collector, look for new and interesting items related to her favorite subject. Angels have an ageless appeal, and come in everything from miniature figurines to beautiful garden sculptures that add a note of classic elegance to any flowerbed. Children can choose from among smaller things like angel picture frames, Christmas ornaments, water globes, fiber optic sculptures, coffee mugs and more.
Maybe she’s had a major redecorating project on the back burner. If you know that what she would dearly love is a kitchen done in rooster, cow, apple or other themed décor, then any gift-giving occasion is a great time to start her off. Dad can take care of the painting/papering and the kids can contribute individual pieces like canisters, salt and pepper shakers, clocks, plates, placemats and all kinds of kitchen accessories.
Use some imagination when it comes to the presentation as well. Small items can be padded with tissue and tied up in a tea towel with a bow. A canister can come ready-filled with her favorite coffee beans. Wrap a gift basket in curtains to match the theme. Giving a picture frame? Insert a handmade coupon underneath the glass, for a family portrait at the local studio.
The perfect gift is not in the price tag, it’s in the effort you make to choose something that is “her”. |
