 | A Christmas decorating theme can make your holiday unforgettable. You’ve never heard of using a Christmas decorating theme before? Don’t worry some people don’t realize it but we usually do decorate with a theme whether it’s intended or not. Even if you’re family is accustomed to the traditional Christmas decorating theme, keep your style but elaborate on a few details to make the atmosphere just right.
From popcorn to poinsettias, every family differs in design elements used to decorate the home for the best holiday of all, Christmas.
What thoughts come to mind when thinking of Christmas as far as decorating ideas?
- Mistletoe
- Cedar
- Red/White Poinsettias
- Rich Ribbons
- Popcorn
- Keepsakes
- Candles
- Pine Cones
All of them can still be incorporated! A good theme would be "Christmas In The Mountains", think of log cabins drenched in candlelight, displaying oversized bows, the aroma of pine or cedar and that all around feel of coziness. Let your imagination go wild with themes,
Those are wonderful theme ideas, the whole family—especially if you have younger children in the home will love helping out with the last two themes. Children love Christmas time and it’s a good idea to start traditions with your little ones early to enrich that "Christmas experience" to last a lifetime.
I can still remember the Christmas at Grandma's. Grandma made homemade wreaths from natural elements every year, along with homemade baked goodies that no one wanted to eat because they were addictive and no matter how hard everyone resisted to keep off extra pounds, there wouldn’t be a bite left. Grandma’s house always smelled of the cedar she used in her wreaths and fresh cinnamon she used as potpourri, homemade of course. It almost seems like yesterday and the memories will last my entire lifetime. Make your home a memorable place of warmth for all to remember.
When decorating for any event, not just Christmas, it’s very important to decide what type of style you like and work on that. If you are a contemporary kind of decorator or eclectic or whatever your style is, make that the basis of your Christmas design theme.
If you like a lot of straight, clean lines then you probably wouldn’t use more than one wreath or lots of flowers. As with all other plans in life it usually starts on paper. Write down some themes to choose from, beside each of your design theme ideas, write what types of materials you imagine involved in that project and let your imagination carry you away. Cross out the ones you don’t like until you find the one theme that’s right for you.
A Christmas decorating theme doesn’t have to be pulled from the pages of a magazine to be beautiful, it’s best from the heart. Always remember that Christmas is a time of magic, spread it throughout your home and let your creative flow take over. Get your family involved in the idea process and implementation of your Christmas decorating theme.
