 | Gardening, and by default landscaping, is not only a pleasant pastime, it’s a great way to reconnect with Nature, spend some time in contemplation, and increase the beauty and value of your home.
Many people take their hobby seriously, and want to do it from the ground up, starting with growing their own seedlings. Depending on your location and the amount of plants you would like to grow, this can be done inside, or outdoors with a portable greenhouse where you move seedlings after getting them to sprout indoors. The handy feature of the greenhouse is that you can free up the space it takes after the seedlings are transplanted in the gardens, by taking it down and storing it away. In the meantime, a potting bench provides the ideal place for a gardener to work at starting their seeds without straining their back by staying bent over for hours at a time.
Once they have the essentials in hand, a gardener can turn their attention to the accessories they’d like to use to be sure their efforts get the attention they justly deserve. Climate, and the layout of your grounds can dictate the type of bushes and other plants that will grow there. But how those are displayed is up to the gardener. Many choose arbors as both an accent, and a practical way of training such things as clematis or climbing roses.
Wrought iron has always been popular for arches, and has the side benefit of being cast in particular styles that will complement or match your home. It’s also a very durable material, and as a result, produces some excellent pieces like the gated Savannah arch, or an arch with flower boxes to either side of the base. The alternative is a wood arch or arbor, often preferred for the natural material, and the country cottage air that it creates. Attention should be paid to what kind of support is offered in each style, and what type of climbing plants you’re planning to use with it to find a model that is suitable. A Westport arbor in natural cedar is handsome on its own, and even more outstanding when summer is in full bloom.
Some of the more unique features that can be added to a rockery or flowerbed include such things as a garden waterfall. These are particularly charming when placed close to the patio or outdoor furniture where the visual and audio effects can be appreciated. Another outstanding accent is a sundial, available in strictly traditional styles in solid brass with a Verdi gris finish, or the curves and airiness of an armillary sundial with a distressed finish to give it that antique appeal.
